Guiding Honors students through the career development process is multi-faceted, blending several components of academic planning, well-being, discernment of core values, skill development, and much more. In an Honors ecosystem, career development work is often shared among a variety of colleagues, each targeting specific components of the career development journey. In this workshop we will share best practices across multiple institutions for engaging Honors students in career development, noting the unique role that Honors plays in the process in relation to campus partners such as career services, academic departments, and student organizations/leadership development programs. Small groups will then gather to discuss the trends, share how their broader campus ecosystem affects their career development work in Honors, expand on the best practices shared, and report back to the broader group sharing context for their conversations and further shaping a best practices playbook. Every workshop participant will receive an updated Honors Career Development Best Practices Playbook following the conference, including a short list of best practices from across the nation. And each participant should walk away with knowledge of at least one best practice that would work well within the context of their school’s ecosystem.

Learning Objectives—Attendees will walk away with:

  • a working and applied knowledge of key terms and concepts existing at the intersection of Honors and career development, including career coaching, alumni development, campus collaborations, and Honors advising
  • an extended toolkit: Honors Career Development Best Practices Playbook
