Justin Micomonaco, Michigan State University

In 2018, Michigan State University’s Honors College revamped an existing program to create a pathway program to promote access for low-income and first generation students. The Academic Scholars Program invites talented students from these targeted populations to participate in a one-year Honors experience that includes access to support services and Honors curriculum. Students who successfully complete the program while earning a 3.5 cumulative GPA are invited to join the Honors College. The session will provide both a description of the program and data related to its effectiveness in successfully transitioning students from these populations into the Honors College.
